Intel is entering the mobile phone arena with their brand new processor based on x86 architecture. It will rival the ARM based processors from the likes of Qualcomm, Samsung, TI and Nvidia. The first smartphone featuring the Intel processor will be none other than Lava Xolo X900. It features a 1.6 GHz single core Intel Atom Z2460 processor with Hyper Threading technology which is famous within the PC performance enthusiasts. It is coupled with 1 GB of RAM and SGX540 GPU. It is good to see that Lava was able to tie up with Intel and release the first smartphone based on their processor. Lava Xolo X900 price is at Rs 19,799 online but people are not appreciating that phone just because it is not from a top tier manufacturer. I am trying to showcase some of the main points which will make you seriously think about this as a solid option if you are in the market to buy a smartphone in the range of 20-25K.
Near Retina Display
It has a 4 inch 1024 x 600 screen which gives it a pixel density of around 295 PPI which is really closer to the definition of the Retina Display by Apple. Viewing angles, brightness and contrast levels are pretty good but the contrast is not as good as the AMOLED or Super AMOLED displays from Samsung.
Blazing Fast Performance
Here comes the most important reason for buying this phone. As I mentioned earlier, it has a single core Intel Atom Z2460 running in at 1.6 GHz with 1 GB of RAM. As per the benchmarks, it is faster than any other single core processor in the market and even comes close to the dual and quad core processors in some of the benchmarks. Web performance is currently the best in the market, even beating all the high end smartphones. The phone does however heat up slightly heat up under heavy performance load.
Speedier Camera
It features an 8 megapixel camera with autofocus and Full HD 1080p video recording and all other bells and whistles which come with any other smartphones in its price range. It even has a very fast burst shoot mode which can capture 10 full resolution pictures in 2 seconds which is better than the other devices such as Samsung Galaxy S2.
Stock Android – An Added Novelty
It currently ships with Android 2.3.7 as of now but the Android 4.0.3 update is promised and I believe that it will even be updated to the latest Android 4.1 JellyBean. It has stock version of Android (without any changes to the interface) which is an added novelty as many people have started liking the stock Android interface better than the custom interfaces such as Sense and TouchWiz.
Battery Life On Par With Others
The battery life is not the best in the market but it is on the lines similar to HTC Sensation or Samsung Galaxy S2 and definitely better than the single core smartphones like Xperia Arc.
Conclusion – Under Appreciated Smartphone
The Lava Xolo X900 is a very good phone and better than any other phone in its price range. Even though it has a single core processor on paper, it is as fast as or faster than even dual core devices in real world performance. But still, it is being under appreciated and underrated just because it is not manufactured by a more recognised brand. Lava Xolo X900 is definitely better than its market perception and it deserves much better attention than it is getting now. If you are in the market to buy a phone within a price ranges of 20-25K, do consider this phone as a solid option.
